The Most Family Friendly Resort In Bali: Westin Resort Nusa Dua Review

When we first started planning for our vacation to Bali, Indonesia, I was really under the impression that Bali was more of a destination for young travelers and couples. While the vacation hot spot definitely can cater to the digital nomad and couple looking for beaches and jungles, there is actually a ton for families to see and do and some really great places to stay with kids including the Westin Resort Nusa Dua, the first spot on the island we stayed in for half of the fun before heading to Ubud to stay in Element Bali Ubud.

How To Get There

Westin Resort Nusa Dua is on Bali’s south east coast and is a 30 minute drive from Ngurah Rai International Airport.

  • Address: Itdc, Kawasan Pariwisata, Jl. Nusa Dua No.3, Bali
  • Hotel Shuttle: Let the hotel know that you’ll be taking the shuttle and they can let you know what time and where to find it.

What To Know

Westin Resort Nusa Dua, a member of Marriott International, is a 5 star luxury resort with a seafront property. As Marriott members, we always check out the Marriott options first when we’re headed somewhere and this one met all of our needs.

You can really stay in the resort the entire time and have plenty to enjoy if you really want to. Though, of course, we highly suggest going out to see more of Bali of course.

You can book a stay at Westin Resort Nusa Dua on Booking.com or on Agoda.com or directly on Marriott.com

The resort has also been awarded the top position as the Best Family Resort in Indonesia for multiple years from the Australian magazine ‘Holidays with Kids’. But it’s not just for families, the resort has also received awards for their dedicated wellness facilities and their restaurants too.

It’s an all around amazing resort with something for everyone in the family from the foodie to the parent that needs some rest and relaxation and the kids aren’t forgotten either. If you’re planning a trip to Bali with your family, check out 1 week itinerary for Bali with kids.

The Rooms

There are 433 modern rooms in the resort that present a clean contemporary style that Marriott resorts are known for. There are touches of Balinese charm and just opening the windows and stepping onto the verandas, you’ll be met with the lush green natural views of the surrounding area. For our stay, we opted for a Family Suite as we would be traveling with my mother as well for this trip.

The Family Suite is a 2 bedroom suite with 1 room featuring a king bed and the second room featuring 2 double beds. Since we bedshare, the king bed suited us just fine so the kiddo could sleep comfortably between both my husband and I.

There is plenty of room to also have a crib or rollaway bed added to your room as well. Each room has it’s own bathroom and mini fridge and then between the rooms, there is a little living room like space with a couch and tv.

This was a very comfortable stay that gave us the flexibility to close the doors for afternoon naps if necessary, or keep them open so the little one could run back and forth to see what grandma was up to.

The Beach

You have to walk on the sand at least once (a day) if you ask me. The beachfront of the resort is complete with umbrellas, chairs, and gazebos. If you want your own lounging gazebo out front, make sure to book in advance. The water was calm and very kid friendly. Get some sandcastle building in and wade into the water that isn’t too deep and is great for little ones.

You never know who you will meet when you travel. One evening, we were sitting at the beach enjoying the views and noticed a woman step onto a stage set up for some event or performance later.

My daughter had just started ballet classes some months before and ran to watch her. She was a ballerina from Europe and her partner was taking some photos of her dancing. She invited my daughter up to dance along with her and it was the most precious experience.

The Swimming Pools

There are THREE outdoor pools at the resort. There is a huge saltwater pool, if the beach that is just steps away isn’t enough, that’s for adults only. A little relaxing oasis if you want to be sans kiddos for a bit.

There is a very large freshwater swimming pool that is really deep in the center and then you can swim around to a great 12 meter long waterslide for the kids four to twelve years old. There’s also a smaller and more private pool on the other side of the hotel. Basically, there’s a pool for everyone and a beach to top it off. Plenty of options suffice to say.

All of the options make it a comfortable stay for both families and the couples that are staying for a visit as well. I always appreciate when a hotel has amenities for various people like having a pool just for adults and one that is more family friendly makes everyone more comfortable whether you’re a honeymooning couple or a family with multiple children.

Another fun feature is that there are various daily pool activities to break up the monotony of lounging around. Jump in the pool to be guided through aquacise, play water volleyball, snorkel, or see scuba diving demonstrations.

We jumped in for an exercise class that was a fun way to get everyone moving a bit. This was also near the slide so our little lady was going up and down and up and down as we were aquacising. We chose a different pool each day of our stay. What a treat to have so many options!

The Food

There are seven restaurants and bars on the premises with different cuisines so you could stay at the resort if you want and still have plenty of options. We made the most of this and ate at almost all of the restaurants at Westin Resort Nusa Dua. We headed to Seasonal Tastes for breakfast each morning and ate oceanside at Ikan Restaurant and Bar one night as well.

We ate pasta and pizza at Prego one evening and enjoyed some sushi from Hamabe Japanese Restaurant too. One afternoon, we took advantage of our Marriott perks to have afternoon tea at The Lobby Bar and Lounge.

We got in pretty late the first evening and also took advantage of room service and enjoyed lunch poolside most days spent in the resort. To have so many options was a great comfort so that we were fed, happy, and healthy.

Oh, and also look out for the free afternoon ice cream for kids. If you have children, you won’t even need to ask, but they get free breakfast, ice cream, and drinks during their stay.

The Kids Club

The Kids Club at Westin is a bit different in that there are two within one. I would have taken pictures but there were always children around and I like to respect their privacy. There’s a building that accepts children from infant to four years old which is basically a babysitting option and then there’s large building and outdoor play area for children from four to twelve years old.

There are little classes and crafts the kids can do during their stay if you want to take a bit of time to yourself. The staff were very attentive, engaging, and kind. Our daughter had a great time and really enjoyed playing with the other kids there. Be sure to check their schedule when you arrive for their various activities that they offer. It’s a great way for the kiddos to be social and to make sure they take a break from the water a bit.

We loved our stay at Westin Resort Nusa Dua. I’d definitely stay again if the opportunity presented itself. As a multi-generational family stay, this was perfect.
