The Tulip Barn: An Experiential Tulip Field In The Netherlands

If you’re visiting Netherlands in the spring, chances are high that you’re looking to visit the iconic tulip fields. You might even join a tour out to the popular Keukenhof Garden. The garden is beautiful of course, but if you actually want to walk in tulip fields, you’ll want to find an experiential tulip garden. The Keukenhof gardens keeps their tulips very protected and the farmer’s tulip fields in the area, while beautiful, shouldn’t be traipsed in without express approval.

If you don’t want to get in trouble in someone’s private tulip field but want that epic photo, find a tulip garden like The Tulip Barn which plants the iconic Dutch tulips and even sets up Instagrammable photo-ops for all of the fun you can possibly have surrounded by flowers.

Tulip Fields and The Etiquette To Know

If you have dreams of walking along aisles of tulips in Holland, make sure you know where to go and the proper etiquette for visiting. While there are fields and fields of tulips to see, you shouldn’t go traipsing into just any tulip field. You’ll end up with some angry tulip farmers if you go and ruin their crop.

There are some great experiential tulip fields to visit though and The Tulip Barn is one of them. Looking for tulip fields, tulip photo-ops, and food and bathrooms that are accessible? Go to an experiential tulip farm. These places make it easy to get the photos, have the fun, and you can sit back with a drink and really enjoy the scenery.

You might think these places are overrun and will be too busy to get a photo of you and tulips without crowds, but you really needn’t worry. You can get the iconic photos, just look at these.

The Fields and Photos

The Tulip Barn is home to 750,000 tulips of more than 175 varieties and has all of the varied tulip colors creating rainbows to the horizon that you could possibly want. Even if you don’t have a bike like the Dutch, you can take a leisurely 15 minute walk from the nearby train station which passes beautiful tulip fields to get here. It’s not a difficult walk either. Very flat… like the rest of the country.

When you first arrive, you’ll notice that there are food trucks, a cafe, and even a bar inside where you can get food and drink. There’s a little play area for small kids and bathrooms. All of this makes it much more visitor friendly than say a gander into the farmer’s tulip fields nearby. No public bathrooms over there.

We opted to eat first, took our time, and then after we were well and fed, headed out into the fields and photo-ops. Now, there were butterfly wings, a painted car as you can see above, and plenty of other scenes set up to take pictures with which you can certainly enjoy. For me, I wanted the more quintessential tulip field photo. And, you can get that here too.

Most people really stuck pretty close to the front entrance and didn’t wander so it’s fairly easy to get a picture without a crowd of people behind you. Was I completely alone at The Tulip Barn? Heck no, but it seems like that from the photos, doesn’t it? The fields are beautiful with the waves of color that the tulips create when they’re in full bloom.

If you’re looking for a tulip adventure in the Netherlands, I highly recommend The Tulip Barn or other experiential tulip field. Not only does it have the amenities you might need, especially if you have kids, like food and bathrooms, but as it’s set up for tourists and photo-taking, you don’t run the risk of angering a farmer if you ruin a flower or two as you walk along the colorful aisles of blooms.
