Where To Find Street Art and Murals in Dayton, Ohio

Every summer on our return home to Dayton, Ohio, I am always stunned by how colorful the downtown area has become. There are so many great things to do in Dayton, Ohio. And one of those things is finding the great street art in Dayton, Ohio. It has been so fun to see all of the new murals in the area. One of my favorite things to do is to create scavenger hunts when we travel places. It’s a great motivator for our little lady when she is on the hunt for something and can check things off. I highly suggest taking a trip around Dayton, Ohio and perhaps use this as a scavenger hunt to do it.

"Land of Funk" Stone Street Murals, Dayton, Ohio

Land of Funk

This 21 panel mural that stretches along Stone Street between South Patterson and South Jefferson pays homage to Dayton’s illustrious funk music history.  Look closely to find local funk bands like The Ohio Players, Faze-O, Heatwave, Zapp & Roger, Lakeside, and Sun and Slave.

Greetings From Dayton

Enjoy this vintage postcard style image on Kettering Tower/Stratacache Tower. You can see some our local favorites including the Wright Brothers, the Dayton Dragons, the Carillon Bell Tower, the Sunwatch Indian Village, and the skyline.

Jimi Hendrix

Up the street from the Land of Funk murals and in the historic Oregon District is a great Jimi Hendrix mural. There’s no better place for this mural than the side of cool music store. This homage to one of the most influential electric guitarists in the history of pop music is a must see. The wall also features a great mural of jazz legend Miles Davis.

The 313 Building

Though maybe not a mural, this is one of my favorite buildings in downtown Dayton because of it’s colorful façade. It’s striking and stands out in every season and every time I visit, I have to pull over to take a picture in front. I’m glad they’ve kept the colors so vibrant year after year.

Music Can Change The World

This awesomely colorful celebration of music is on a garage on Jefferson Street between 4th Street and 5th Street. This is a super fun one to play around with. It might make you jump for joy like it made us. Sing it loud, sing it proud!

Paint Splash

This fun mural depicts paint pouring out of a bucket. They fall onto you and the parking lot on Jefferson Street. Take an umbrella and you can make some fun photos if you ask me.

Cats, Cats, and more Cats

If you love cats, you cannot miss this crazy cat-filled mural on Lily’s Bistro in the Oregon District. The mural, done by The Mural Machine, was a fundraiser for local groups dedicated to animal welfare and you can find nearly 100 cats.

Love

This beautiful mural was inspired by Paul Laurence Dunbar’s poem “The Dove” and was designed by Dayton artist Amy Deal. It’s light, bright and look closely and you’ll see the overlapping doves that come together to make the shape of a heart.

The Orange Woman

I like how this beautiful woman in orange sits beneath the tree on Fifth Street. She’s large and in charge and quietly looks down the street while we all pass by. Look closely to spot the red cardinal, Ohio state bird, sitting nearby too.

Twilight

In the summer of 2021 when we were home we noticed this cool mural was just being painted. At the beginning of the summer it was getting underway and I crossed my fingers that it would be finished by the time we left a couple months later and it was. This beautiful nature-themed mural features swans, owls, kingfishers, bats, and frogs and was designed by artist Gae Helton. It’s a gorgeous and huge mural at 148 feet long.

Bring Some Lovin’ Here Today

Located on the side of Blind Bob’s Bar, the site of Springfield-native John Legend’s performance of “What’s Going On?” by Marvin Gaye after the Oregon District mass shooting in honor of the victims and first responders. The city of Dayton is resilient and people love strongly and stands firmly in their resolve to fight hate with love. This mural is a great representation of that.
