A Family Friendly 2-Day Porto, Portugal Itinerary

We’d heard good things about Porto, Portugal from our family who visited the summer before and were excited to eat the delicious food, spot the Portuguese tile-covered facades of the buildings, and walk along the picturesque Douro River. With a unique blend of traditional charm and modern vibrancy and a city-center that is very walkable, you can see a lot in 2 days in Porto, Portugal. We found Porto to be an incredibly family-friendly city with flavors that we all enjoyed, friendly locals eager to share their culture, and a lot of historical buildings to peruse. Get ready for a fun trip with this 2 day Porto itinerary: (This post…

A Family Adventure from Porto to Braga and Guimarães

We had four days in Porto, Portugal so decided to take a day trip from Porto and see something nearby. Perusing the various tour options from Porto, and looking to steer clear of the wine tours because we had an elementary-aged kiddo with us, I came across the “Best of Braga and Guimaraes Day Trip from Porto” on a few sites and decided it was the one for us. Visiting at the end of October, leading into the rainy season in Portugal, we were graced with our tour on the rainiest day of our time in Porto, but we made the best of it and saw clear blue skies by…

Discovering The Best Park In Dayton For Kids: Wegerzyn Gardens

Over the past few years, I’ve really been astounded by how nice the Dayton, Ohio MetroParks are. The expansive Five Rivers MetroParks covers 16,000 acres of green space and they’re connected by a huge network of bike paths. Dayton is actually a bronze-level Bicycle Friendly Community which means every Daytonian lives less than 10 minutes from a path and from there they can hit green green green. It’s an amazing network. Knowing that a lot has changed since I was a kid growing up in Dayton, I marked all of the parks on my map and we set out to see as many as we could and started with the…

Teylers Museum: A Family-Friendly Journey Through Art and Science in Haarlem

One of the first things I did when we moved to Haarlem, Netherlands was look up the museums to visit. With our nifty Dutch Museumkaart in hand, we were ready to get out and see them all and the Teylers Museum, Netherland’s oldest museum, was one of the first on the list. Welcoming visitors since 1784, this museum in Haarlem is a historical gem with a gorgeous collection that has remained largely unchanged since the late 18th and early 19th centuries. How To See More Tulips In Lisse When You Visit Keukenhof

The most famous pictures of the Netherlands are absolutely of the tulip fields in the spring. The dazzling and somehow perfect rows of the pastel hues of the tulips are iconic and with fields just 30 minutes from Amsterdam, they’re surprisingly accessible. This year we’ve been residing in Haarlem, which is just north of Lisse so there was no doubt I had to check out those iconic tulip fields. The picturesque town of Lisse and the celebrated Keukenhof Gardens are the epicenters of the tulip extravaganza in the Netherlands. But, if you’re planning a trip there, make sure to really maximize the experience and see more than just the Keukenhof…

Brussels, the vibrant capital of Belgium, is not only known for its historic charm but also for its rich comic strip heritage which is something we found out when we visited for a weekend. As a mother exploring the city with my elementary-aged child, we discovered a super fun adventure along the famous Comic Strip Route. Whether you’re trying to follow the route or just having a good wander around, you’ll undoubtedly run into numerous murals in Brussels. On the look out for fun things to do in Amsterdam and a little search on where to find street art in Amsterdam landed me on a very interesting website for STRAAT Museum. Straat, meaning street in Dutch, is a giagantic space with iconic pieces by Keith Haring and Banksy, and there was even a piece from one of my favorite Korean street artists, Royyal Dog. STRAAT Museum is an intriguing space for the radical art movement. If you’ve got some time and want to do something fun in Amsterdam, take a ferry to nearby NDSM wharf and explore the dynamic intersection of creativity, expression, and storytelling. If you’ve got…
