How to get to Ao Nang from Krabi International Airport

If you’re headed to Ao Nang, then you’ll be flying into Krabi International Airport.

Ao Nang, Krabi, Thailand

Step 1: First check to see if your hotel or resort offers a shuttle. Quite a few of the high-end places in Ao Nang do offer private shuttles so see if they do.

Step 2: Decide if you want to travel by bus, taxi, or pre-book a private transfer. If it’s your first time to the area, I recommend pre-booking a private transfer. The airport isn’t huge, but it was boisterous when I exited and had I not had someone picking me up, I think I could have gotten a bit confused.

Step 3: Get a ticket, pre-book your driver, or just find a taxi.

  • By bus: This is the cheapest way to travel to Ao Nang from Krabi International Airport. The bus departs several times a day between the hours of 8:00am and 8:00pm. You can purchase a bus ticket at a stall inside the arrival hall at the airport. Be sure to tell the driver which hotel you’re headed to. They will stop as close as they can as they don’t seem to mind if there’s a “bus stop” or not. This route is cheap, but can take awhile.
  • By taxi: The fastest option, you can get a fixed-rate taxi from Krabi Airport to Ao Nang. Don’t be surprised to have a little negotiation outside. If this isn’t comfortable for you, pre-book online.

When is high season?

High season here is from November to April and Christmas and Lunar New Year. One reason the tourists are all headed to this spot is because you can easily catch a long-tail boats and ferries to access beaches on nearby islands. Be sure to know when high and low tide is.

When the tide is low, you’ll have to trudge through mud and water to get way out to the boats. It’s best to travel in the morning when the water is high and you can basically jump right in and go.

Krabi town is definitely more local. I stayed in both areas because I have a friend living in Krabi. When she was working and busy though, I headed to Ao Nang to have my vacation.

There are things to see and do in Krabi Town but if you don’t have a friend to show you around, you’d probably prefer Ao Nang which is just set up for tourists to stop through. Ao Nang has the touristy shopping, nice hotels, and plenty of restaurant options. Ao Nang is also on a little beach.
